What is HomeStretch?

HomeStretch brings together funds from the State of Montana and private sources to support homeownership. The program was born in 2023 from House Bill 819 which established the Montana Community Reinvestment Plan Act.

With this program, homebuyers can utilize HomeStretch which contributes 30% of the cost of a home. In exchange, borrowers agree to a limited equity return at the time of resale.

How to Access HomeStretch

HomeStretch is available to Montanans in 22 counties across the state. To see if this program is available in your county, visit our map.

1

The prospective homebuyer works with an eligible first mortgage lender. The lender determines if HomeStretch may be a viable option for the borrower.

2

The lender fills out NeighborWorks' pre-qualification application on behalf of the borrower.

3

The borrower engages in housing counseling with a NeighborWorks-approved HomeStretch counselor. Here the borrower will become more familiar with the equity share component of the program.

4

NeighborWorks reviews pre-qualification application and the lender is notified of acceptance.

5

The borrower is given 60 days to shop for a home and can apply for two 30-day extensions.

6

Once the borrower is under contract on a home, the lender submits full application to NeighborWorks.
